Dave DeBacker is a designer at DMSAS who joined the firm as a travel fellow in 2023. His research focused on the urbanism of historic canal systems in the Netherlands and how the country’s time-tested principles can be applied to contemporary design. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Notre Dame, with minors in Sustainability and Poverty Studies. During his time in college, Dave had the opportunity to travel internationally, experience centuries of European classical architecture, and study the restoration efforts of Notre Dame Cathedral on-site in Paris. Dave is interested in how built, natural, and social environments interact and how they affect the people within them. Outside the office, Dave enjoys painting, cooking, visiting museums, and getting lost in Wikipedia rabbit holes.
